Chevy dealer fixed under powertrain warranty (I had 80k miles at the time) and gave me a nice loaner (they had to keep it overnight due to a staffing issue). (lwindram) To install them and be sure its 100% Correct you need to pul the cams out , or at least lif them up , slide the seal all the way through , then bring the seal back and watching the edges of the seal which contact the cam . Its very easy to bend the inner seal which causes the leak. WebJul 1, 2012 · 1,925. Leaking seals is most likely a PCV problem. Definitely discuss replacing the PCV with your mechanic. Otherwise, there are other seal leaks that are a lot more expensive (rear main seal leak will require transmission removal) On shifting to synthetic, it can leak on higher mileage engines that haven't used it.
WebDec 12, 2012 · I'd recommend the first way even if you remove the valve cover to reseal it (it tends to develop oil leaks at the main seal and the small rubber seals for each bolts that hold the cover to the head). Then put the new seals in (make sure they go it level, use big socket to put on the seal to pound on with light or plastic hammer. WebAug 30, 2009 · Whether it can be polished out or not depends on the depth of the scratch. A new seal will probably still seal a slightly smaller diameter as long as it's smooth. I'm guessing the scratch is rough enough that it's just damaging the seal. You probably can pull the cam with the head still on the motor, It won't be easy though.
